This book contains 21 stories that have been passed down from one generation to the next. And now I am passing them on to you.

"These are the stories I grew up listening to, I remember visiting the elders of my family, sitting with my father and listening to all the stories about the magic cow, the evil witches and the girl who could turn into a bird. My grandmothers always recited the stories and I heard the lessons the stories taught."

In a story titled, "Orphans". We find a cruel stepmother who is jealous of her husband's love for her son. The stepmother decides to poison the boy's food. One day the stepmother insisted that she be the one to cook for the family. Cooking in the house was always done by the girl and this rare act of kindness made the boy's sister suspicious. The girl watched her stepmother cook and saw her add a poisonous red root to her brother's food. To save her brother's life, the girl would turn into a bird, sit on a branch in the cowshed while her brother locked up the cows at night, and warn her brother not to eat the porridge. This story teaches us about love, loyalty, and that good will always return evil.

In the story titled, “Saṅombe”. We find a girl named Denga who was married with two children, Munyadziwa and Munzhedzi. One year, after not seeing her parents for five years, she asked her husband to visit them and show them her children. Her husband agreed, but only if their sacred cow could go with him. This was no ordinary cow but a magical cow that could talk, sing, and dress like a human.
