ABOUT THE BOOK

The Good Pastor is a novel that speaks about Bishop Phuravhathu, a charismatic pastor that is obsessed with making money from his congregation. Every year, new and more elaborate means are conceived to get the church to tithe more. The congregants are encouraged to contribute to a burial society, the pastor's birthday, donations to build a bigger church, and tickets for the church's win-a-car competition.

"There are certain things that every human being fears, my friend! Those things are death, sickness and witchcraft. If you approach a man during the happiest day of his life and start talking about witchcraft, that happiness quickly dissipates and disappears! In order to gain a loyal following, we need to always emphasize to the masses that members of our church are protected from death, sickness, and witchcraft. When they die, as all humans do, it will be God's timing and not due to the evil acts of man. The congregants will be invulnerable to witchcraft and if they fall sick, it will be because they are not living according to the laws of the church. Do this and you will see what will happen!" The person saying this is Mr Rerani advising Bishop Phuravhathu on different ways to grow the church.

Mr Tshipanere is a senior pastor and a member of the church's executive committee who started to rebel against the wrongdoings that were being done by Bishop Phuravhathu.

"Let me go so that I can teach this man how to speak, bloodsuckers and leaches; all of them! Their survival is based on the blood of others like vampires and ticks. There is no day that passes by without asking the congregants for money! Where will they get it? Are you that out of touch that you don't see the deplorable living conditions and financial hardships that the congregants you claim to love so much are under? Do not take out any more money! If you take it out, it is your own fault! Do not allow yourself to make another man rich while he is seated in his chair!" The person saying this is Mr Tshipanere trying to set himself free from the clutches of the security team.

Bishop Phuravhathu felt hat Mr Tshipanere was on a mission to overthrow him as leader of the church.

He took a decision to have Mr Tshipanere killed.
